About
Us
So
who are we and how did this all get started anyway?
It started with a very simple idea that one person
can make a difference.
Teen
Board Programs was first started by Rainbow
Promotions in East Coast regional malls in 1990. This youth oriented,
volunteer program, today in its fifteenth year, provides an opportunity
for young men and women between the ages of thirteen to eighteen years
to represent and work with their local malls, producing fashion shows,
creating special events and most importantly participating in community
service projects. Teen Board Programs teach the values of volunteerism
and giving back to the community. These experiences not only look to
solve problems in communities but also to provide authentic learning
opportunities for young people that will have meaning and relevance.
Music & Motion Dance Productions
was formed in 2000 by teen board members with a background in dance
and the performing arts. This pre-professional dance troupe, which performs
locally and in surrounding communities throughout the year, was determined
to use the arts to inspire creative self-expression and community action.
In
2005, through a joint effort of Music & Motion Dance and the Montgomery
Mall Teen Players, Dance
For Hurricane Relief was developed as a response to aid the Red
Cross and the survivors of Hurricane Katrina. Over 1,500 dancers &
37 dance schools/companies participated in this event, making it a huge
success. More importantly, it empowered young people and provided them
with a forum to express their feelings, concerns and to have an impact
on the lives of others who were so much in need.
The members of Music & Motion Dance and the Teen Board Programs
decided their task had just begun, as so much more needed to be done.
By seeking to mobilize the dance community on both a local and national
basis, the issue of hunger could clearly become the next focus. Now
more than ever, food banks are in need of support and donations to help
those in need. By getting the dance community to host food drives at
performances, classes, workshops, and school dances, we hope to be able
to assist local food banks in meeting the needs of so many people in
our communities.
Won't you join us and help make a
difference. Together we can end hunger!
